The Knights of St. Cecilia

The primary and essential mission of the Knights is to watch for those who would do harm to our church or attempt to steal from the church.

Who Are The Knights of St. Cecilia?

The Knights, including both men and women, are members of the parish, primarily retirees, who are willing to donate some of their time to keep St. Cecilia's open for worship and prayer during the day, as opposed to having to close our doors as many other churches have had to do. They assist visitors, as needed, in enjoying the peace and beauty of our church. They also help our priests when necessary.

(NOTE: The Knights are strictly a St. Cecilia parish ministry and are not associated with the Knights of Columbus or any other organization, and there is no rank struture among its members other than Lead Knight.)

What is the Commitment of a Knight?

At present, most Knights perform one hour a week watching the church. The hours that we watch the church are from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on weekdays, and from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Saturday. If we can increase membership within the Knights, we may be able to reduce the weekly commitment.

And He said unto Peter:

"So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?"

Matthew 26:40

Additional Duties

During your one hour shift, you are encouraged to perform (as you are willing and/or able) the following duties:

a. Replace burned out votive candles at the stations at the front of the church and in Our Lady's Chapel.

b. Check pews and confessionals for any suspicious items (and for people occupying the confessionals).

c. Check that all of the main level windows (especially on the 17th Avenue side door) are securely closed.

d. Check that the church doors (other than the 17th Avenue side door) are locked, as well as the door to the lower church, the Reconciliation              Chapel, the Choir Loft, both the bathrooms, and the doors to the Sacristy and Baptistery.

e. Straighten up the church bulletins and brochures at the front and rear of the church as needed. Straighten out the prayer books and the cards      in the pews.

f. Open the restroom on request for responsible people. Lock it when they leave. Keep the key in your possession at all times.

If you decide to become a Knight, we will provide you with a brief indoctrination into your duties, and what to do if something comes up requiring action on your part. Thank you for your prayerful consideration
